Welcome to our Year 1 page. We have a really exciting year ahead of us this year with lots to look forward to.

Book Bag:

Please bring your child's book bag to school everyday. We use book bags to send home letters, homework and reading books. Please ensure your child’s reading book and Reading Record is brought to school every day.

The children will be assigned a Spelling Shed log in and password. This can be found in your child's Reading Record, along with the half termly spelling grid. These words will be available through Spelling Shed on a Friday and they will have a week to access these words through a variety of games. If your child prefers to handwrite the words, they can also be practised  without Spelling Shed. We will monitor their progress through fortnightly dictations during our spelling lessons.  Please hear your child read each night and make note in their Reading Record. In Maths our focus is number bonds to 10 and 20 and counting in groups of 2s, 5s and 10s. They will be given a log in to TT Rockstars. Whilst we appreciate this may be quite tricky for Year 1 children, it is available as an extra challenge for those that want to have a go.

Children are expected to read to an adult every night. When you hear your child read, please ensure you make a note in your child’s reading record. We would encourage parents to ask their child questions about what they read to help them develop their comprehension skills.

Year 1 have PE on Tuesdays (outside weather depending) and Wednesdays. Please can you ensure that the children have suitable footwear for outdoor sessions. It is important that all children have their kit in school on these days. Earrings and watches cannot be worn for PE so if your child is not able to remove their earrings independently it would be helpful if they do not wear them on these days. Please ensure your child’s P.E. kit is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

At the end of the day:

- Parents wait and collect their children outside the classrooms.
- All children need to be collected by an adult. Please let the office know if collection arrangements change or if you are running late.

If you have any concerns, please come in and see us at the end of the day once all children have been dismissed, leave a message with the office or send us an email via the office to arrange a time to speak with us.
