This is a busy, yet rewarding year for the children, where we hope to see them achieve their very best. We also endeavour to prepare all children for a very smooth transition towards the next phase of their lives: secondary school.

Homework is an important part of this transition and we value the support that you can give, when prompting your child and assisting them with any homework. Below is a useful reference of the days for various homework tasks, which the children will be given in Year 6 this year:

At the start of each half term our spelling lists for that half term are given out. We stick these in your child's Reading Record. They are tested every Friday on the words for that week.

In addition each child has a spelling homework book. The spellings for each half-term are stuck inhere. Each week your child will be given a theme and they need to write a short story (which includes paragraphs) based on the words for that week. The theme will be set on a Monday to be returned on Friday of the same week.

Maths and Grammar

Weekly tasks will be allocated on on a Monday for completion by the following Monday.

Weekly maths tasks will also be allocated on Mathswatch on a Monday, for completion by the following Monday.

Children are to work through the reading comprehension tasks in the booklet at their own pace, in an order of their choosing. Our expectation is that one task is completed each fortnight. We will ask the children to bring the booklets in on occasions to monitor.

The children are also expected to read for at least thirty minutes each day. At this stage in their education, they may choose to write in their reading records themselves as evidence of this.

In addition to this, it is vital that the children know the times tables and related division facts. These are very important in Year 6 as they speed up calculations across a range of topics in mathematics. We will be doing spot check on times tables throughout the week so please remind your child to practise these regularly via TTRockstars or written methods.

Please be advised that homework is an important part of the learning process in Year 6, therefore should children not complete homework, their attendance will be compulsory at the next Homework Club during lunchtimes. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

P.E will be taught on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. PE will be taught on Tuesdays by Coach A. Please ensure that your child comes into school wearing the correct P.E kit on these days, including tracksuit trousers and a jumper for the winter.

At the end of the day:

Parents wait and collect their children outside the classrooms.
All children need to be collected by an adult unless we have written permission that your child can walk home.
Please let the office know if collection arrangements change or if you are running late.
If you have any concerns, please leave a message with the office who can arrange a time to speak with us.

We wish all of the children a fantastic year.
