A Great Start: First Game & First Win

Our year 5 and 6 boys' football team had their first fixture of the 2024-2025 season at Esher Church School on Thursday 17th October. The game played out in glorious autumnal sunshine, resulting in a 2-1 win for Cranmere. Refereeing the game, Mr Gilbert saw first-hand how amazingly the boys played together as a team. He went on to say 'the boys showed great self-belief and resilience to pull together and achieve their first win'.

We think the wonderful match report from Jake, team captain, pretty much sums up the sense of teamsmanship:

We played at Esher Church ground at their school. The game started at 3.30pm and about 10 minutes in, Jake shot from 25 yards and scored. It landed straight into the bottom corner. In the second half, about 5 minutes in, Esher Church scored. It landed in the top corner to make it 1-1. Then, with 5 minutes left, Jake took a throw in which landed in the box and Max kicked it in the bottom corner to make 2-1 to us. The game finished and we beat Esher Church for the first time.
