Mini Marathon Crazy!
On Friday 21st June, over 350 Mini-Marathon runners took to the Cranmere school field. Despite it being unexpectedly hot weather with no respite from the the blazing sun, it was an amazing day with the challenge to walk or run for 26.2 minutes being successfully achieved by all.
The morning began with our Early Years pupils setting a steady and considerate pace, followed by Key Stage 1, who invariably took it up a notch or two, with some surprisingly quick, speedy and agile running, skipping, walking and as per Mr Gilbert's observation...a hop and wheel. A hundred percent for the commitment and enthusiasm they showed! They truly deserved the very big cheers and high fives they received from the Cranmere Friends, our Year 6 pupils, fellow runners and staff.
As you can imagine, the afternoon gave the opportunity for some of our more adept Key Stage 2 runners to show off their competitive prowess and put their cross country running skills to good use. Conversely others enjoyed a more leisurely pace, taking in the sights and lapping up the ecstatic support from the many observers on the side lines. Once again the enduring resilience of our pupils prevailed throughout the afternoon. They were exceptional, never giving up, which was remarkable as it was sweltering in the afternoon sun! Needless to say there were plenty of red faces and hot and sweaty children and everyone was delighted with their own personal sense of achievement.
Congratulations to all who took part! Also a special thank you to Miss Frame for organising a tremendous event. An early consensus emerging from parents, staff and pupils - when can we do this all again? Maybe same time, same place next year? Until then, bravo to all our Cranmere pupils - you excelled yourselves!
